“As a pearl in the Indian Ocean” (2018) – Chapbook – Gloria Mannazzu – 13/16

AND THE TIME PASSES BY

And the time passes by
and we think that we are young.
We want to stop crying
but will never grow up.

We think we want to fight
but we need to keep the hug
of thousand platitudes
we don’t want to give up.

We speak easily
we use the same words
the ways of perceiving
seem all the same roads.

Nice, great, interesting,
where do we fit our vast eyes?
We can look within
we can look without the light.

And the time passes by
and we think that we are young
our days are dimming
and we don’t want to wake up.
